The Cats Behind the UmmPixies Magic

Today we're celebrating International Cat Day, and at UmmPixies, it's the perfect excuse to shine a spotlight on two very special members of our family—Solo and Zac.

If you've seen my cheerful orange cats designs, you've already met this furry pair in spirit. 

Meet Solo and Zac

Solo and Zac didn't just find a home—they became family.

We adopted Solo and Zac while we were living overseas. They were just about still kittens when we took them in and were a bonded pair who were born a month apart.

They're experts at supervising creative projects, claiming the warmest spots in the house, and making sure no laptop is ever used without feline approval. Their little habits and unique personalities are are a constant source of discussion in the family whats app group. 

Why Pets Matter

Anyone who shares their home with a pet knows they bring so much more than companionship.

Pets become part of the rhythm of family life. They encourage us to slow down, laugh at the unexpected, and enjoy the small moments. Whether it's a purring cat curled up beside you after a long day or the excitement of being greeted at the door, animals have an incredible way of helping us feel grounded.

For children, pets are the friend when no-one else understands them, the cuddle when they can't talk, the constant companion.

No matter our age taking a few minutes to stroke a cat helps us pause, reconnect and reset.

Colour, Creativity and Everyday Joy

At UmmPixies, I believe happiness is often found in the little things.

A pop of colour that makes you smile as you make your morning cuppa.

An amusing print in the bottom of your bag when you're scrambling to find something in a stressful meeting.

These everyday items might seem small, but they can add little sparks of joy to ordinary routines. Bright colours, fun illustrations and practical products all work together to make daily life feel just that bit lighter.

That's exactly why I wanted Solo and Zac to feature on something I could share with everyone. Their playful energy and commitment to napping remind us not to take life too seriously and to find delight in everyday moments.

Celebrating Rescue Cats

International Cat Day is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate rescue organisations and the incredible work they do to give cats a second chance.

Every rescue cat deserves the opportunity to be loved, and every adoption creates space for another animal in need.

Solo and Zac are proof that rescue pets don't just change their own lives—they enrich ours in countless ways too.
